Here are various developer tasks that need attention:

User Feedback


Internet Archive


  • Sync Ourmedia nodes with archive regarding metadata such as licences and tags.
  • Integrate/Utilize archive.org flash and thumbs.

Player Related


  • create player sample page as per JD email to SpinFlow group
  • support ogg
  • better labels for revlog, etc (blank labels)
  • graphics and messages for empty channels (icon, default video)
  • better handling of text posts
  • better handling in firefox of missing plug-ins for viewing videos. at least a link to explain it (JD) - this often turns out to be deleted media (mss)

Channels Related


  • change wording on Channel and Channel Item screens as per JD
  • better handle large numbers of channels in audience field
  • easy widget add, paypal, blogroll
  • integrate channel homepage and "main" page
  • new thumbs - use as defaults

  • fix channel aggregators

Widgets

  • After we embed the open-source audio players on Ourmedia, make the code available on our Tools page, along with a step-by-step how-to that would make it easy as pie for any blogger to embed the players on their site as well (JD)

Support


  • Look into zotz account issues
  • Fix upload quota for JD Lasica (vs Joe Lasica) (JD)
  • get CVS updated. set up procedures for checking out code to staging and deploying to production.

General/Misc/Unclassified


  • One other factor to think about: give the newest videos more weight (ie, heavier "rotation") in the lead spot, while older videos might resurface there before being retired after a certain number of appearances. (JD)
  • Allow for CC version 3.0 licences.
  • Favorites button on pages and a favorites page for members. (JD)

  • On the Community page (ourmedia.org/community), we could use thumbnails of the 10 most recent members to join Ourmedia, their images, their screen names and a link to their My Page. Can we have a link to the most 100 members who joined? (since we've disabled the all members link.) Also still need to settle on a generic icon for members who don't upload an image. (JD)
  • We need to have a Tags page, and need to add Tags as an element on Browse media, so probably we should combine these two pages, no? With, say, displaying the 250 most popular tags on the site, followed by the rest of the Browse media page? And a link off to, what?, all tags? (or tags that occur more than 3 times?)
  • Replace front page tags with real ones.
  • Add link or button to each media page so that it is easy to (1) bookmark as favorite and (2) post to a channel
  • provide way to flag objectionable or adult content
  • locate and promote Wired CD material (JD)
  • address differences in www.ourmedia.org vs ourmedia.org (e.g., separate logins).

Ongoing

  • Just plain making videos work for people. Lot's of browsers, players, formats, etc. to deal with.
  • testing! much of our work is untested. much of the old code is buggy. we would like to make everything of a quality suitable for Drupal community contributed modules.

  • turn off autostart for videos. do not provide this option for users (they can do that on their own blogs).
  • Give users functionality equal to what they have in alpha version of Ourmedia, in being able to scroll through a dozen videos (via thumbnails), which would appear in the lead position. (JD)
