Media Players

We have been enhancing the Ourmedia player with a thumbnail browser used on the Ourmedia home page and for channels. Here are some notes and resources used during this project.

Update: the Ourmedia player has been liberated! It now can be used in a "freevlog" style popup window.

Players & Related Tools

Here are some media players and related tools that we plan to support. Many are open source. This is in addition to support for standard, embeddable media objects such as: Quicktime, Windows Media, Flash (swf), Real Audio (example).

• FlowPlayer - Flash video player. Used by the Internet Archive.
• 1pixelout Audio Player Wordpress plugin - Popular with podcasters. Flash.
• Embedded MP3 Audio Player - how to use the 1pixelout Flash audio player on any web page.
• Jeroen Wijering Flash Video Player - also has a media player for flv, mp3 and images. Plus a Flash mp3 player with support for RSS and XSPF. Also a Flash image rotator.
• XSPF Web Music Player (Flash) - available as slim, extended and single button. Used by IA.
• Multi Flash Video Player - The free version of this applet is a beta-build of the .swf, and does not include the Flash source code.
• SimpleViewer - SimpleViewer is a free, customizable Flash image viewing application.
• PostcardViewer - a free Flash image viewer. The interface is based on the real world metaphor of a set of postcards shuffled onto a surface.
• Autoviewer - a free Flash image viewer. AutoViewer is designed to display a linear sequence of images and captions.
• jQuery Flash Plugin - A jQuery plugin for embedding Flash movies.
• Play Tagger - Play Tagger is a neat little tool that allows you to easily play mp3 files directly on del.icio.us (see the popular mp3 bookmarks), and you can have it for your website or blog too.
• SWF Tools - Drupal module for embedding Flash
• FlashVideo - Drupal module. FlashVideo is a complete video solution that expands the upload module to allow web developers and users to upload video files, automatically convert those videos to the popular Flash format, and then embed thier video in any node type in the Drupal System using the simple [video] tag.
• Unobtrusive Flash Objects (UFO) - UFO is a DOM script that detects the Flash plug-in and embeds Flash objects (files with the .swf extension).
• SWFObject - Javascript Flash Player detection and embed script
• Freevlog - The code generated from this page will automatically embed your Windows Media, QuickTime or Flash videos in a pop-up HTML page.
• Vlogsplosion - a video-centric theme with multiple video format feed support. Includes javascript from vPIP by Enric Teller and Flash Video player by Jeroen Wijering.
• Embed YouTube Flash Video Player into Wordpress - How-to guide. Can also do this for AOL, Google, blip.tv and others (example, more)).
• vPiP - (videos Playing In Place) dynamically embeds a video after the viewer clicks on it's link. The link can be a text or image link. For example, click on the video to your right to see vPIP in action. - NOTES: conflicts with Google Analytics plugin for Wordpress. Also, not fully supported in Safari and IE6.
• Pausing RSS Scroller - Pausing RSS scroller is an innovative scroller that combines PHP and external JavaScript to let you show any RSS feed
